What's happening

Some GroupMe users are experiencing sign-in failures. If you're affected, you may see one or more of these symptoms:

  • You were unexpectedly signed out of GroupMe.

  • Signing back in fails or hangs.

  • You don't see the Facebook sign-in option and aren't sure how to log in.

Status

Our engineering team is actively investigating this issue and working towards a resolution.

What you can do

  1. Force-close and reopen the app — don't just background it, fully close it.

  2. Update to the latest version of GroupMe from the App Store / Google Play.

  3. Try signing in on the web at groupme.com if the mobile app isn't working.

  4. Reset your password: go to forgot_password and check your spam/junk folder.

    a. Not sure which email is on your account? Try resetting at forgot_password with every email address you've used: personal, work, school, old providers. GroupMe will send a reset link if there's a match.

    b. If you find the right email but can't access that inbox anymore, try recovering access to that email account first through your email provider (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, etc.) This is usually the fastest path back in.

    c. If none of that works, contact GroupMe support with your phone number and any email addresses you may have used so we can help locate your account. Response times are longer than usual right now due to high volume.

Logging in with a Facebook account

Important

GroupMe no longer supports the Facebook login button. Your account still exists — it's now linked to the email address associated with your Facebook account.

To sign back in if you previously signed in with Facebook:

  1. Find your Facebook email — this is the email listed in your Facebook account under Settings > Personal Information > Contact Info

  2. Try signing in to GroupMe with that email address directly.

  3. If you don't know your password, tap Forgot Password and enter that same Facebook email. You'll receive a reset link to set a new password.

  4. If you're not sure which email Facebook used, check your Facebook Settings or try the email addresses you commonly use.

Tip

If none of your email addresses work, contact GroupMe support and include your phone number and email you think is associated with your account to help us locate it. Response times are longer than usual right now due to high volume.
